Another hilarious book about James Herriots' old school vet practice in England. He writes the funniest stories about treating animals in his practice. The animals, both large and small, are unpredictable. So are some of the owners. A very charming book written by a very charming man!

After having read the four volumes of Herriot's life, I was thrilled to discover an additional work on his veterinary adventures. Always entertaining, always heartwarming and frequently uplifting. He brings the characters, animals and scenery to life with such heart. Another winner!!!

Having read all of the James Herriot books, I find it a bit sad to have reached the end of the last one, since I enjoyed them so much. I enjoy knowing that I have the entire series, so that I can reread them any time I choose. I recommend them to all animal lovers.

I love this series! The stories of his patients 4 and 2 legged will bring you tears of sorrow at the loss of life. But, also be ready to cry laughing at some of his “accidents.“ You will be hard pressed not to enjoy this book!

Amazing book. I grew up reading James Herriott and was so excited to find this book. I was saddened to learn this was his last book and I read it savoring every story, knowing there won't be any more. This book was like a welcomed visit from an old friend. Highly recommended.

I love these books! Herriot has such a marvelous, open, self-deprecating style and a sense of humor and of the ridiculous that makes me laugh out loud! Combine that with compassion for man and beast and you have pure enjoyment.

Similarly to the rest of his books, James Herriot is engaging, humorous, touching and light in recounting his stories as a country vet in the 50's. If you're an animal lover and looking for a light, heartwarming reading, this is it.

This, as with all of his works, is uplifting good clean fun. It makes you remember a time when life wasn't necessarily easy but hard work, honesty, loyalty and the love of animals defined a much greater part of the worlds population. I would recommend his books to anyone with a good heart.

Herriott was a great story teller. Each chapter is complete in itself, offerring a vignette of interaction between a pet and its owner/parent. He had great insight into the animals he cared for which he shares with the reader. Always found him to be worth the read.

Just leaves you wanting for more. Really unfortunate that 'Jim Herriot' is no more, so no more wonderful animal stories. But I keep on reading this and the other four volumes again and again. Five stars without a doubt.
